The Danger of Addiction

Video Game Addiction

Introduction

Today, video games are popular all around the world. However, they can cause serious problems such as addiction. Addiction is when a person feels they can’t stop doing something, even if it is bad for them.

Case Study: South Korea, 2005

In 2005, a couple in South Korea became addicted to online video games. They spent many hours in a cybercafe playing the game Starcraft, often for more than two hours a day. Meanwhile, their three-month-old baby was left at home without proper care. The parents were so focused on the game that they forgot to feed or look after the child. After several days without food or comfort, the baby sadly died from malnutrition and dehydration.

Why Did It Happen?

This tragic event happened because the parents were addicted to video games. Addiction is a serious problem, and many people are not educated about the dangers. When people don't understand addiction, they might ignore important responsibilities and put others at risk.

Possible Solutions

To avoid problems like this, people should reduce the time they spend playing video games. It’s important to work, take care of your family, and stay connected to real life. You should limit your screen time and never leave a baby alone. We must also educate people about the dangers of addiction so they can recognize it and get help if needed.
